Course Overview:
Web creation has become a pervasive presence for individuals representing
their business interests to a global environment. This course will utilize the
skills learned from previous portfolio management courses, providing the
student an opportunity to learn the about the basic principles of web design.
The goal of the course is for the students to leave the course with an opportunity
to combine their accomplishments from previous portfolio courses.

Class Overview and format:
Week 1 || August 22nd – Introductions — tell about each other, discuss availability,
describe web experience, discuss computer experience, describe passions, demonstrate
where to purchase web site names, begin thinking about web site names describe the cost
of hosting a site.

Week 1 || August 23rd to 26th
Lecture on the history of the Web and Networking – begin thinking about Domain
names.

Week 2 || August 29 – September 2 – Begin learning how to build a basic web page
— resources and examples on www. justinhoffman.net — examples of bad web pages/
student pages in the past —–
NO SCHOOL – SEPTEMBER 5

Week 3 || SEPTEMBER 7 – 9 – In class – working on World’s Worst Websites.
Homework is to have web page begun/made for the next class— next class we will go
over our web pages and critique them among the group, worst web page wins!!!

Week 4 || SEPTEMBER 12 – 16– Collect our portfolios and begin designing the
layout based on the preference of viewing principles.

Week 5 || SEPTEMBER 19-23 – Introduction of CSS Style Sheets. Discuss the CSS
Assignment. Homework: Creation of a CSS site

Week 6 || SEPTEMBER 26-30 – Demonstrate your CSS Project Number 2 –
critique – Discussion of European Styles. – Hertzinger Dunne Video
– Homework: Assign Paper 2

Week 7 || OCTOBER 3 – 7 – Learning All about the Cpanel – Discussion of Eastern
Art and Architectural Influences/ Discussion – Work on google mapping, preparing,
rough draft.

Week 8 || OCTOBER 10 – 14 — MIDTERM EXAMS – Have your Bad Website,
CSS Site on the Server–

Week 9 || OCTOBER 19 – 21 – Photoshop Review – Creating a rocking Web
Advertisement – Homework: placing your Advertisement on your Web Page.

Week 10 || OCTOBER 24 -28 Monday Homework Due: Find 2 wordpress templates
you really LOVE!! Set up WordPress Sites. Understanding the web page backend.

Week 11 || OCTOBER 31 – NOVEMBER 4 – Understanding the CSS file, wordpress
Syntax: wordpress and PHP, Themes and Templates, the Include Tags, Conditional Tags

Week 12 || NOVEMBER 7 – 11 – Assign Investigation into 7 Influences for Visual
Empathy: How to find Intellectual materials for your 7 Influences?

Week 13 || NOVEMBER 14 – 16 – Undstanding the Loop, multiple loops, and
custom fields

WEEK 14 || NOVEMBER 21 – ONLY DAY OF CLASS

THANKSGIVING BREAK NOVEMBER 23- 25

WEEK 15 || NOVEMBER 28 – DECEMBER 2 – Child Themes, Widgets and lots of
Plugins

WEEK 16 || DECEMBER 5 – DECEMBER 9 – How to place a banner and
advertisement on your site

WEEK 17 || DECEMBER 12 – DECEMBER 17 – The Big Clean Up and Launch

FINAL EXAMS and Final Presentations…
